The Waker of the Winds

What? No introductions? Well, he felt a big wave of relief wash over him now. Though he was sure that the pirate crew would eventually grow curious about him being here that he would have to introduce himself sooner or later. However this captain Tetra would most likely be the first to ask who he was and why he was here. Hopefully Link would help him out on that. Though he had no idea the young hero was planning to explain everything while he slept.

He continued following after the green-clad male down to below the desk, noticing another pirate that seemed to be guarding a room. Could that be the captain’s headquarters, perhaps? Shadow wasn’t sure, and it looked like he wouldn’t be allow in there being the new guy on the ship and all. Though he did notice the pirate guard staring at him, which made him feel a little awkward so he turned his gaze away from him and looked ahead to see where Link was taking him.

Upon walking by Tetra’s cabin he was reminded that the room was always guarded unless they were out drinking and they left Niko in charge. So, technically there would be two people here. There wasn’t anything too special in the room anyway. At least from his perspective. Just the old hero of legend and jewelry with a picture. 

“Oh, by the way, the one who’s guarding that cabin is Nudge! He’s funny, but he’s the strongest. He’s the one who helps make the decisions. We’re about to meet your roommate, Niko. He’s the lowest on the rung.” Until you’re accepted that is. 

“He’s a great guy, almost like a brother if I had to describe him.” He nodded to himself. He walked one staircase down and went to a door. “Okay, here it is.” Well, technically he was showing him the challenge room with the minor treasures or stocks in the back room.

” ‘Kay. I’ll keep that in mind.” He wasn’t sure if he wanted to compliment Tetra or her crew right away, but it might be wise just to say it and be on their good side. “Well, it belongs t’ you ‘n you take care of it, right? It doesn’t matter if ya built it or not.” Now that he thought about it, the pirate crew did an amazing job on building such a big ship. It must have taken a lot of work to complete it. At least, he thought they built it, because Link did say it belonged to Tetra and the rest of her crew.

With thoughts of the boat aside, Shadow slightly clung to the back of Link’s tunic for extra safety measures from the sunlight. He really didn’t want his skin to burn and smoke up if any sunlight came in contact with his skin. “Yeah, skin is kinda sensitive, y’know? And if I’m gonna work, I’d rather work at night.” ‘Kinda’ wasn’t the right word, but he felt the need to keep his weakness on the down low as much as possible. Once they board the ship, Shadow wondered just what exactly he was going to do first.

He nodded, “Well, owning my boat sounds a bit.. overbearing. I think I’ll just say it’s an old friend of mine instead,” he said with it not aimed to anyone in particular. His tone overall became quieter and softer with those words and just nodded at Shadow’s words. The two approached the ship and he started walking up the wooden ramp set out at an angle with caution. As they grew closer to the deck of the ship walking upwards, they would eventually be able to make out the simplicity of it as well as some of the other details.

As soon as they boarded the deck, Shadow’s eyes wandered around to the working pirates doing their business. It was weird to be around so many other people, unless he was off causing a ruckus in some village. He never spoken to anyone, but here, he’ll probably have to. It was weird. He wasn’t sure how he should feel. They’ll probably give him odd stares  and not be comfortable with him hanging around. Maybe he should just leave. Forget he ever boarded the ship and go hide back in the forest, but his feet didn’t move. They stayed where he was, knowing that he really did want to stay and not leave. He didn’t want to go back to traveling alone. Not when someone was finally okay with his company. After all, he can always leave later, right? It’s not like the young hero was forcing him to stay on the ship. He had merely offered him for a ride. 

The pirates seemed to stop what they were doing to welcome Link back, and when they approached closer to notice that the green-clad male had brought someone along with him, he felt all eyes on him. He wasn’t quite sure what to say so he’ll let Link do the talking.

Well, leaving the talking to someone who shared few words with the crew was probably not the best idea. He simply smiled and waved and skipped introductions as he assumed they would be done when supper had arrived. He thought it’d be better if one did their own introductions. It would most likely not be much anyway and would last but a minute when the time would arrive. Then everyone would be in their regular old routines. He started walking down to under the deck while everyone resumed their positions- some a bit reluctantly or with an off-handed comment. The only person that was below the deck would be Niko if he was correct and that was where the swabbie area was indeed located. He’d talk to Tetra later about the whole ordeal with an unannounced and unplanned person joining the voyage. He’d do it by himself while Shadow would be asleep, he was sure. It was better if it was all negotiated in private.

He lightly laughed, “Ah, well, you might want to say that compliment to Miss Tetra and the crew! I don’t really own any boat.” He immediately took that back, “Well, I do own one, but I didn’t make him. So, I don’t think that counts?” his voice and face were full of bemusement before he shrugged it off. He nodded, “Well, that’s great and convenient then. I’m sure we can try and find you something to make it more comfortable if it doesn’t work out though.”

He raised an eyebrow at the other’s actions but continued talking, “It’s alright, whatever works for you. We’ll almost be there and inside if you don’t like the sunlight too much. You might want to end up avoiding work up on deck when the sun’s blistering though in that case.” It was odd to hear of one who disliked the sun, but perhaps it was because he was raised in it practically.

(( I apologize for two things: first off, the wait. I admittedly had to think about how to respond for a bit tossing ideas here and there. I’m content now that i finally figured it out though! ; w ;

Secondly, the fact you won’t be able to read the most recent posts in this roleplay. For some reason, I can’t edit it and make a new section in the drafts so I’ll have to start fresh. But hopefully this is only a temporary issue! ))

           The green-clad male debated whether or not to say more about the challenge Niko would surely have set up no matter what or the people he’d be hanging out with if this would really be a long stay for the other. Thinking that perhaps this may really be a new edition and may be sort of like a new family member in a way was such an important thought banging against his head refusing to leave and let another drift by in. He silently continued the walk back until he could make out the dock and the ship he had left sometime before. How long was it since then? Hours? Minutes? Time had slipped away from his mind but soon he’d figure it out by the bells most likely. They’d indicate what hour it was for sure. He spoke as he pointed his left index finger at the gigantic wooden boat anchored down with the sail with a classic pirate symbol on it, “That’s it. That’s where we live and where we’re headed. It’s pretty nice though it might be a little uncomfortable if you’re not staying on a hammock or where most of the crew sleeps. You’ll fit in though eventually.”

How odd. The hero didn’t seem to grow suspicious of his name, but that was probably a good thing. He wouldn’t have to worry so much about being attacked by him and a gang of pirates. Pirates! How exciting! Did this mean that this hero was kind of a pirate too? He got to know how Link was like, but he wondered how the other pirates would be like. Link said they were friendly once you get to know them, and their leader was quite tough, but nice. Shadow snapped out of his thoughts when Link pointed out the boat. “Whoa!” He gasped in awe at the large ship before him. It was quite a sight to see, and to think he’ll be traveling on it!

“Quite a nice ship ya got here!” Shadow said with awe, but he stopped in his tracks. It was just a couple of steps out of the forest and into the light. The sun may be nearly setting, but he had to be more careful not to glance at the sun directly when it was much closer to people’s eye level. Light was his weakness and it’ll hurt if he looked directly at it. It hurt to even be out in the open with it, but the forest provided shade and some protection against it. 

“Uh, yeah. Don’t worry ‘bout me. I can sleep anywhere. ” He moved behind Link to protect himself from the sun. It’ll be easier to hide in his shadow, but he didn’t want to scare him after being invited on his ship. “You don’t mind if I hide behind you from the sun, right? Sun’s kinda bright.”

( It’s alright! To both your reasons! And I must apologize too. My reply might have some errors or not make any sense because I have a major headache on something big on my mind, but I needed something fun to get my mind off it. Haha. @v@; )

A smile curled upon his lips at this, one full of genuine happiness and a bit more upbeat than his usual brotherly ones. He gave a few moments to think about the mere thought of the crew being afraid and merely laughed at the idea and shook his head with his hand swinging across to reassure his thoughts. “No, if anything, they’ll just be wondering why you look like me. You’ll have to complete a challenge, but it shouldn’t be much trouble if you know how to swing around! They won’t do much to you and they’re a pretty good crew. For a band of pirates, they’re not too difficult to get close to. You’ll and they’ll be perfectly fine if things go like I think they will!” He left out the possible fact he might also have to wash some underwear, but chores can be told later. He nodded and looked towards his pouch and shuffled his through it before his eyes lit up upon finding what he wanted. Gently taking it out, he revealed it was a reddish-orange telescope decorated with two little seagulls near the outer lens. He brought it up to his eye and searched for the ship he had left earlier before putting the telescope away and nodding to himself satisfied. He turned to the other and pointed out his arm in the direction he had found it as a way to tell him where it was clearly. He motioned for him to go ahead of him first. “It’ll be hard to miss once you’re out of the forest with its sails and all! I’ll tell you if you start moving the wrong way.”

Shadow found it rather odd to see how happy Link was knowing he’ll be tagging along. It even confused him a little. He wondered what went through the hero’s mind to seem so comfortable to have him tag along when it was obvious he wasn’t normal. Did the hero suspect no danger from him at all? Oh… Right. He said he wouldn’t harm him, but shadows tended to lie. They weren’t entirely truthful and were rather mischievous, but he was different than the rest of them due to his memory loss. That didn’t mean he could still lie though.

Hearing Link laugh distracted him from his thoughts. Shadow wasn’t sure if he should feel insulted or be glad that they won’t be scared. However if they do question him and why he looks so much like Link, then what was he supposed to say? He’s the dark half of him? No, they’d kick him out for sure! The dark-clad boy thought about it for a moment and eventually came up with an idea. He’ll use his memory loss as an excuse. That should stop them from questioning him any further.

“Mmmkay. If ya say so! I do like myself a challenge, but swingin’? Sounds like it’ll barely be a challenge at all!” A smirk spread across his lips. Swinging will be no problem at all for him. He was rather swift and light too. Even if he had the ability to float, he didn’t need it’s help in order to swing. Not only that, he’ll enjoy showing off~. Once Link pointed the way, Shadow walked forward, rather excited to see the hero’s ship.

Waiting a bit for a response, he thought about how the other would do at the little test he had to do. If he was anything like himself, it shouldn’t be too much of an issue as much as the swabbie claimed it was. He followed after and after a short while of walking, he spoke up, “If you don’t want to answer, that’s alright but I’ve been wondering something for a while… Who exactly are you? You seem to have just popped up and have nowhere to go and your appearance is rather uncanny comparing to mine. If you can’t answer any of that, at least what’s your name? I don’t think I can remember you ever saying it to me.”

Honestly, sailing seemed like fun. Especially at night time. He completely avoided talking about how they looked the same, because he wasn’t sure if Link knew he was the dark version of the legendary hero himself. “Look kid. I really don’t think I’ll be welcomed if I were to go on your ship.” Shadow paused, looking away from the other male. “Now it’s my turn t’ ask ya somethin’. Why are ya offering me t’ take me on your ship after what I’ve done t’ you? Are you really sure this ‘she’ you keep talkin’ about will let me? Just who is this she anyway?”

Before he could raise an objection, the question was given. He had to think for a moment before he could give a response. “I.. I guess I don’t have an exact reason, but you’re a person. It’d be terrible to not give you a chance to have a place to go. It’s a lonely life from what I know, though I might not be the best person to explain anything about it.” He then nodded, “I’m pretty sure! I’d be surprised if she didn’t! She’s pretty tough at first, but just give a reason and I’m sure I can help you! She’s Captain Tetra, a leader of some pirates if you want an introduction of her.” He carefully left out any other details, especially those relating to her other identity. “She’s looking for a New Hyrule for a friend of ours right now.”

Link was right. It really was a lonely life and he spent most of his life without anyone, really. It was just him, wandering around aimlessly without anyone to go to. No master to serve or order him around to do things. Maybe if he tags along with the young hero, he might find out more about himself and where he should go. Being lost was beginning to get tiresome anyway, and he’ll finally know how it feels like to spend time with a group of people. “… Fine. I’ll tag along. I’ve never been on a pirate ship, anyway.” He paused, pondering for a moment. “Hey, in case ya say this Captain Tetra’s tough… Are the rest of the crew tough too? You don’t think they’ll be scared of the sight of me? I mean, ya already seen some of the things I can do.” Shadow couldn’t help but smirk at that. He liked scaring people, but if it meant him not being able to board the ship, then that’ll be a problem. “Well, if ya think they’ll be okay with me, then lead the way.” It’s possibly they’ll be suspicious of him, and not trust him, but he didn’t blame them. Shadow knew he wasn’t supposed to be a good guy, but he can keep himself from doing any of his evil tendencies. After all, he had no reason to hurt them right now, and Link was being nice to him. The green-clad boy even called him a person. Something that made Shadow really happy inside, but he showed no sign of it. It felt… really nice.

(( Sorry ‘bout leaving you guys in the dust for a while! But I’m glad to say that now school and big trips are finished! While I will be traveling tomorrow, I’ll be resuming my normal life there anyway. Sorry for Shadow especially for not replying to that rp, but I should be getting to that now! Shadow bursted out laughing, holding on tightly to the bark of the tree so he didn’t fall off. His laughter was interrupted the moment Link started to question him. Nobody bothered asking those kind of questions. He was quite surprised really. ” Y’know curiosity killed the cat~.” Shadow smirked. “Buuuut, I guess I can answer ya.” He remained sitting up on the tree, his facial expression was unreadable. “It’s nice and shady in the forest. I don’t really like the sunlight because it hurts my eyes.” The dark clad boy wasn’t going to give him the real reason as to why he didn’t like sunlight. Well, he was telling the truth about the sun hurting his eyes, but he didn’t tell the entire truth. “As for the last question… I dun really have anywhere t’ go or anythin’ t’ do.” Shadow tossed the boy’s hat back to him and slowly floated down to stand besides the tanned boy. “And you wouldn’t want me on your ship. Just get goin’ already.” 

Rolling his eyes at the remark, he continued to listen. “Well, that’s quite different to me, but I guess I can see someone can not like it. I suppose I should not expect you to be like me just because you look oddly like me!” he replied, not quite picking up the fact it wasn’t the full truth. His face was then wiped with concern. “Are.. Are you sure? I’m sure someone like you needs somewhere to go and our ship is a place. If you don’t like the sun, then we can wait ‘till the sun drops and you can stay away from the deck. It won’t be too difficult, I’m sure she’d let you! She’s not the type to abandon someone who needs help!” Well, as far as he could guess. She was pretty greedy about it, but still.

There was nothing but silence coming from the dark-clad boy. He took a moment to think to himself before coming up with an answer as he merely stared down at the other male dangling below him. Shadow could prevent Link from ever going back to his captain’s ship, but he wasn’t exactly sure what to do. Should he let him go or leave him hanging here as long as he pleased? The hero wasn’t as fun as he’d thought he’d be. Life as a shadow wasn’t easy, as many usually didn’t pay no mind to a shadow’s existence. Bah, humans! They upset him and they were pretty much all the same. Stupid humans never give the time of day to beings like himself. Link may have played with him a little, but the hero wanted nothing more but to get his hat back and return to his ship. “Fine. You’re free t’ go.”

Shadow looked away from the green-clad boy, hiding a frown. He could feel the empty and lonely feeling already filling inside him. Sometimes he wondered why Ganon ever gave him emotions. They were quite a bother to deal with sometimes. He looked back to his prisoner, the frown completely replaced by an expression of annoyance. Shadow raised a hand and shot a little ball of dark magic at the rope which held Link captive. It cut the rope, leaving the hero to have a rather painful landing. Shadow didn’t really care. His painful cries might cheer him up. “Ya better get goin’. Don’t want to keep them waitin’ and wonderin’ what happened t’ ya~.”

Before he could respond, his lips let out a surprised scream as he well before he grunted when he landed. Staring silently at the other for a moment, he then rose his voice. “Um.. if you don’t mind, I’d like to ask something of you before my time here is up. Well, perhaps a few things, but still! Why did you spend your time here in this forest? I doubt you were causing mischief for no reason and you don’t seem like you’d just take a nice walk to enjoy nature. I mean, do you have something on your mind or do you have nothing to do? If it’s the latter, I’m sure our ship could supply something,” he suggested. His turquoise eyes might have not necessarily pierced Shadow’s eyes, but it was still an intensive look. He didn’t have that mature ring to him though, it seemed more like curiosity than anything.

Green? Have you shrunk a little?

The green-clad boy raised an eyebrow and shook his head. Green? It sounded like it was being used as a name if the other was right. “That’s quite a strange name,” he softly responded. He couldn’t remember shrinking. He had done nothing but grow in the months from his last birthday if he was correct. And who was this in front of him? If the purple color of his tunic and cap hadn’t stuck out, he would’ve assumed he was looking into his reflection. Now that he was paying attention though, his voice was quite different from his own. It was extremely deep, especially compared to his own high pitch. There was something different about their eyes as well. It was the details and presence that differed greatly, but from first glance it was just like looking into a mirror and having it ask you something. He couldn’t muster up much else to say, there was not much to respond to. Finding the one before him was sudden, surprising, and unexpected as well. It’s not like talking to a villager or a new face.

“….” Icy blue eyes merely stared at the green-clad boy. He was expecting him to put up more of a fight, especially when he was much younger than some of the other heroes. Shouldn’t kids be more energetic to do such things? Well, probably not when you’re the hero. The hero had to be more serious after all, but things were at peace right now, right? Nobody was causing destruction. At least none that he knew of. Shadow wasn’t being ordered around by anyone currently, so he’s free to roam around as much as he pleases. “You’re no fun, y’know that?” He stopped dangling the hat and put it upon his lap. “Just where are ya goin’ anyway? Do ya really need t’ go so soon? You were goin’ t’ sleep before I woke you up.”

He nodded and continued staring into space, simply dangling there. This was probably going to strain him soon enough. He’ll figure out a way to get out soon, hopefully anyway. Trying to mutter a response, his expression turned much more sheepish, his previous frown into an awkward smile. “Oh, nothing much. I just need to be back to my captain’s ship before midnight or so! I don’t want to worry them or anything, but I can skip dinner if I have to. We’re on a pretty big expedition, and we should find it before she gets too old to rule.”

There was nothing but silence coming from the dark-clad boy. He took a moment to think to himself before coming up with an answer as he merely stared down at the other male dangling below him. Shadow could prevent Link from ever going back to his captain’s ship, but he wasn’t exactly sure what to do. Should he let him go or leave him hanging here as long as he pleased? The hero wasn’t as fun as he’d thought he’d be. Life as a shadow wasn’t easy, as many usually didn’t pay no mind to a shadow’s existence. Bah, humans! They upset him and they were pretty much all the same. Stupid humans never give the time of day to beings like himself. Link may have played with him a little, but the hero wanted nothing more but to get his hat back and return to his ship. “Fine. You’re free t’ go.”

Shadow looked away from the green-clad boy, hiding a frown. He could feel the empty and lonely feeling already filling inside him. Sometimes he wondered why Ganon ever gave him emotions. They were quite a bother to deal with sometimes. He looked back to his prisoner, the frown completely replaced by an expression of annoyance. Shadow raised a hand and shot a little ball of dark magic at the rope which held Link captive. It cut the rope, leaving the hero to have a rather painful landing. Shadow didn’t really care. His painful cries might cheer him up. “Ya better get goin’. Don’t want to keep them waitin’ and wonderin’ what happened t’ ya~.”

Before he could respond, his lips let out a surprised scream as he well before he grunted when he landed. Staring silently at the other for a moment, he then rose his voice. “Um.. if you don’t mind, I’d like to ask something of you before my time here is up. Well, perhaps a few things, but still! Why did you spend your time here in this forest? I doubt you were causing mischief for no reason and you don’t seem like you’d just take a nice walk to enjoy nature. I mean, do you have something on your mind or do you have nothing to do? If it’s the latter, I’m sure our ship could supply something,” he suggested. His turquoise eyes might have not necessarily pierced Shadow’s eyes, but it was still an intensive look. He didn’t have that mature ring to him though, it seemed more like curiosity than anything. 

(( I don’t know if I announced if I was going to be gone for a week, but yeah, I was and I’m finally back home! I suppose I’ll be getting to replying! C: ))

Dangling from the tree branch, he sighed and waited there, staring around as the other laughed. This is the trouble he gets into. Well, at least he wasn’t lead to his death. He gave no verbal response, only silence. His expression was highly unamused and he didn’t move much. Normally, he’d be throwing a fit trying to drop, but he knew he was in no danger and he’d eventually be let down. He’d just have to deal with it. His teal eyes following the other making his way up to the branch above him, he attempted to bend up to stare but fell back down from exhaustion. At least he could still listen to Shadow’s words. He sighed and nodded. “How long will it take me to get my hat hat back now? I really don’t have all day..,” he trailed off.

Shouldn’t kids be more energetic to do such things? Well, probably not when you’re the hero. The hero had to be more serious after all, but things were at peace right now, right? Nobody was causing destruction. At least none that he knew of. The teenager didn’t even realize the other was making such abnormally broad steps. His attention was fixated on the hat. Memories. His eyes were fierce, perhaps not as fierce as they were when his sister’s or the princess’s life was on the line, but still pretty fierce. He paid no attention to the ground, he’d make a fool of himself and fumble and lose time. Though if he had known, he would’ve for sure paid attention because he was about to take a fatal step.

And there the step was placed, his mistake of the day as he fell into the trap exactly as planned.

Shadow fell on his back, kicking his legs up in the air and arms wrapped around his stomach as he laughed at the hilarious scene before him. Link hanging upside down from the tree. Oh, it was just too amusing! If only he had a picto box on him, he’d take a picture and treasure this memory forever.  ”Ahaha! You fell right into my trap! Didn’t see that comin’ did ya?” He made his way back up onto his feet, still in a fit of giggles. Once he calmed his laughing a bit, Shadow walked on over to the young boy and lightly pushed him on the forehead with the tip of his finger. “Oh, don’t worry. I won’t hurt cha~. I’m just havin’ a little fun ‘s all.” He walked around the boy, towards his back and eyed that sword. It’s best to be careful to avoid it, just in case the green-clad boy decided to attack. Though, he had already told him that he wasn’t going to hurt him, but Link most likely didn’t trust him. “Hey hero. You don’t mind if I just hang around, do you?” Again, he bursted out into laughter at his own little joke. It soon died down, though. Shadow floated upwards and sat upon the tree branch Link was tied to. ” I still have your hat, y’know~.” He smirked, dangling the boy’s hat above him in a taunting matter.
